Confirming the featured Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) on October 4th as the major target for the four-year-old this time in, trainer Peter Moody has revealed he is pleased with the condition of classy import Wish Come True ahead of Thursday’s Group 3 Newcastle Cup (2300m).

Claiming four wins and four minor places from just 13 competitive starts so far, Wish Come True began his racing career abroad in Italy, securing several impressive results in black type events before arriving in the care of Moody partway through 2013.

Allowing just over two weeks between the Newcastle Cup and The Metropolitan, Moody told TVN he is not so convinced by the son of Aussie Rules’ allocation of the wide at awkward barrier 15 for Thursday’s feature race, but is expecting renowned jockey Blake Shinn to get the best from his entrant.

“Newcastle just fits in to the program perfectly for where we want to go, which is the Metrop,” Moody said.

“It is a little more than the two weeks, racing on Thursday gives us an extra two days, which is ideal.

“Barrier 15 isn’t the best but we just have to deal with what we have been given.”

Finishing a close second in the Group 2 Derby Italiano Better (2212m) in what was his final Italian appearance in Rome on May 19th last year, Wish Come True steadily built to the task over four starts in his maiden Australian preparation through autumn; finishing fifth in the Cleanevent Handicap (1800m) first-up and while unlucky to be blocked for a run and seventh in the Banjo Patterson Serious HT Open (2000m) on May 24th, broke through for a maiden victory in the Boscastle Handicap (2040m) before running a credible second to The Inventor in the Group 3 Tatt’s Cup (2200m).

Overcoming an early check and poor running position to finish fourth in the Listed Premier’s Cup (1800m) first-up on August 30th, the gelding out of Tibouchina is currently offered at generous odds of $5.50 for success in Newcastle Cup betting markets at leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
